A Zodiac Of Effects

aries-beast-distortionEverybody by now should know that Pedal Finder and Celestial Effects has teamed up to giveaway an Aries Beast Distortion. With three easy ways to enter there’s no reason not to submit an entry for this versatile pedal with a depth of controls and a subtle range of tone. Having played this pedal (review coming) it’s no exaggeration to say you can dial up or dial down multiple degrees of dirt, squee and chug. In fact, the Celestial Effects site has testimonials from working musicians, technicians and guitar nerds plastered all over. My favorite comes from Randy Parsons of Parsons Guitars who wrote, “Oh my Lord! I feel like I have magic powers playing the Aries Beast! Holy Shit. It’s like a drug. This is my new favorite! I’ve got my setting in beast mode. I’ll give you back the prototype, when you pry it from my C O L D D E A D H A N D S!.” Succinct and to the point – just how a review should be.

But, let’s not get too focused on the Aries Beast Distortion, just because we happen to be giving one away. There is a lot more to Celestial Effects than just this one distortion pedal. In fact, they have an entire Zodiac of pedals to fit every personality, mood and tone. So let’s meet some the other pedals in their chart and hear what folks have to say.

Taurus Blues Overdrive (April 20 – May 20): From slight, middy OD break up to full out tube thunder, the Taurus Blues Overdrive delivers it in spades. Taurus is very organic and has a string definition like no other overdrive pedal you have ever tried. Testimonial: “The Taurus Blues Overdrive does everything that a TS does, plus everything the TS can’t do.” – Scott Boo-Moe Bell LeBlanc – A Ton Of Bluestarus-blues-overdrive

Gemini VTR (May 21 – June 20): Gemini features three effects in one box, saving valuable pedalboard space. A true analog pitch shifting vibrato effect, an analog tremolo effect and an analog reverb effect with a digital tank simulator. Each effect circuit is independent which means you can use one, two or all three effects at the same time! Testimonial: “The Vibrato alone is worth the price of admission! I LOVE it! Several songs that I’ve used Trem on will now get the Vibrato treatment. “Sealed With A Kiss” (intro done Spaghetti Western Style), all the Link Wray stuff (“I’m Branded”, “Jack the Ripper”, “Rumble”), Dwayne Eddy-all sound WICKED through this box! Try it in stereo.” – Skip Baker – The Fabulous Woodies

Cancer Wah The Fuzz (June 21 – July 22): This pedal features four individual effects packaged neatly into one enclosure. Each effect can be used individually of in conjunction with each other or other external pedals. It’s like a pre-wired mini pedal board with a fixed signal path internally. Testimonial: “Quite honestly, it’s one of the best fuzzes I’ve ever heard.” – Alex Maiolo – Premier Guitar

Leo Tube Overdrive: (July 23 – August 22): Coming Soon!

Virgo Rock Overdrive (August 23 – September 22): This pedal gives you that thick, saturated guitar tone reminiscent of ’60s and ’70s classic rock guitarists, thought only possible through a sagitarious-over-drivecranked stack. Testimonial: “Celestial Effects has not stumbled blindly into the pedal business. It’s clear that the Virgo’s designers have carefully analyzed what it takes to make a great classic rock tone and then they’ve given you a little more width to work with. The pedal is beautifully quiet, which is fortuitous, considering how well it works as a boost. If you have a big amplifier and a humbucker-equipped axe, you’ll likely come to believe the Virgo is your sign because it’s a sure ticket to sweetly sustaining heaven a la Cream-era Clapton. ” – Steve Ouimette – Premier Guitar Magazine

Libra Supernova Compressor (September 23 – October 22): Coming Soon!

Scorpio Super Boost (October 23 – November 21): While designing a gain stage discreetly for another pedal, a wrong component was accidentally inserted into the mix. One that is not generally used in effects designs. The result was a pleasant surprise and one that Celestial Effects instantly knew was something really special. The Scorpio Super Boost! does not easily fit into one category. It emits elements of a boost, fuzz and an overdrive/distortion in a small, simple package. With the gain control set all the way off or counterclockwise, the output signal will be virtually one to one to the guitar signal but with a slight treble/mid boost. Testimonial: “When I first saw this pedal on the Celestial Effects website I thought to myself “sounds boring”.. Only one knob, clean boost, how exciting can that be? I will just turn up my volume if I want clean boost…. How wrong I was! It is perhaps my favorite pedal. More often than not, if I’m going to grab only one pedal, this is the one I bring with me in my guitar case. I have had many others ask to borrow it too.” – Jeff Beck – Solo Artist

gemini-vtrSagittarius Overdrive Boost (November 22 – December 21): The Sagittarius Overdrive Boost includes two great discrete effects in one space saving pedal. A very transparent overdrive with presence coupled with our Scorpio Super Boost! The two effects are wired in series with the ability to choose effect order. OD into Boost or Boost into OD. Testimonial: “The new Sagittarius from Celestial Effects is outstanding! You won’t find a better overdrive from a pedal, and it plays well with any amp.” – Ryan Kelly – Ryan Brooks Kelly

Capricorn Rock Distortion (December 22 – January 19): This little monster is all about gain, body and tone! The Capricorn can be tamed to produce a nice fat bark or cranked to provide searing fuzzy overdrive tones with massive amounts of gain! Two settable gain stages define the amount of power you crave and a bit of clean keeps the Capricorn grounded and very definitive all without a tone control. Testimonial: “My wah into the Capricorn Rock Distortion = TONE HEAVEN.” – Kyle Frederick – BoomTemple

Aquarius Fuzz (January 20 – February 18): Affectionately called “the fuzz for guitarists that hate fuzzes” by many of its users, the Aquarius packs tone by the boatload. All four controls work in harmony providing rich sustaining tones with beautiful ringing harmonics to all out psychedelic goodness. Testimonial: “With my Aquarius Fuzz, I can nail tones ranging from Early Billy Gibbons, Cream and Jimi Henrix. It’s a very soulful creation” – Gino Caira – GC Sinner

Pisces Coral Waves: (February 19 – March 20): Coming Soon!

So there’s the Effect Zodiac as it stands, with a few outstanding ‘coming soons’ to keep our interest peaked. The Point is, Celestial Effects’ reputation wasn’t conjured by a team of marketers riding a wave of pedal related buzz-words. It’s the result of years of deliberation, experimentation and the occasional happy accident. So if you haven’t already, check out what they have to offer and let us know in the comments below what you have on your board and what you think!
